South west of Jaipur, Ajmer is a retreat wrapped in the green hills. Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage centre for the Muslims as well as Hindus. Especially famous is the Dargah Sharif-tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, which is equally revered both by the Hindus and the Muslims. Ajmer was also a favourite residence for the great Mughals.

Pushkar is abode of Lord Brahma and the world’s only temple dedicated to Him is located there. It is 14 km away from Ajmer. The Picturesque Pushkar Lake is a sacred spot for Hindus. During the month of Kartik (Oct/Nov), devotees throng in large numbers to take a dip in the sacred lake.

Air :  The nearest airport is Jaipur which is 135 kms away.

Train :  Ajmer is on the Delhi-Jaipur-Marwar-Ahmedabad-Mumbai line and most trains stops at Ajmer.

Road : It is connected with bus from all places like  Jaipur, Agra, Aligarh, Abu road, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Barmer, Haridwar, Chittorgarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and  Nagaur.

Climate

Hot in summers – the city becomes green with first rains. In winters temperature falls considerably.

Transportation

There are plenty of auto rickshaws, some cycle-rickshaws and quite a few tongas in Ajmer.

In Pushkar there are no auto rickshaws. One can find cycles for looking around colorful bazaar.

While shopping in Ajmer, you can go for spree of various kinds of items representing Rajasthani culture and style. The perfumes are a major specialty of Ajmer.
